Go Falcons Go!
We were excited to make signs and go cheer for our Falcons. Below you can see us making our signs and cheering our Jr. High Falcons to victory.
Also, I found a great new website that we tried out in the computer lab today and the kids really had fun with it, check out Daniel Cook. I have also added it to my "Links for little learners" on the sidebar.

Exciting day planned for Tuesday.
I just can't wait to see what ole Frank Lemon and his mule Jenny are up to tomorrow! We will be jumping into that Science Alberta crate and doing more math/science activities. I have uploaded a voicethread for you to watch with your child. These are some of the animals that Frank found in his camp, these are all animals that live right here in Alberta. Can you identify them all? The kids and I will be learning about them and we will be making comments about what we know now and later we will also comment on what we continue to learn about these Alberta animals. This is the beginning of an ongoing project.

What I want for my children.
This is a video to provoke thought. This is from a parent to other parents, a teacher to parents and a teacher to other teachers. Enjoy and think about it.
What I want for my children.
This link will take you to You Tube, there could be inappropriate material found on You Tube and for this reason I did not post the video itself on my blog. The linked video is completely fine for viewing by children.
Thank you to Heidi Hass Gable for publishing such a thought provoking video.

The Lost Lemon Mine
I just received a Kindergarten Teachers dream! Science Alberta has organized large crates of materials centered around a theme and sends them to Alberta classrooms. The one that I ordered is called Gold Rush to 10 and it covers Kindergarten outcomes in all areas of our math and science curriculum. It is unbelievable! Have a look at the video below and ask your child about old Frank Lemon and his mule Jenny. Ask them what animals live in Southern Alberta, these are some of the animals that Frank found in his camp. I hope to get the children to update you on our adventures with Frank Lemon next week.

Peace and Chaos...all in one day.
O.K, 28 Kindergarten kids, the annual rummage sale, our Valentines party and the intermural soccer finals...I am tired! This morning was so good! Mr. J came and taught us about painting. Mr. J taught art at our school for many years and we always enjoy having him in the classroom. The kids were so engrossed in their painting in the below video, I didn't tell them to be quiet, they just were. That was the peace part of the day. Now the chaos! I will give you a glimpse of the amazing deals found at the rummage sale. The Valentines Party was a great time with games, fabulous food and giving out our Valentines, it was a good day in Kindergarten. Happy Valentines Day from the Kindergarten Kids!

Skating, Kerpoof and Valentines..busy, busy day!
You would just not believe how the children's skating is coming along. We have all levels on the ice and am most impressed with the ones who had never skated before, they are skating now. Today we made a big obstacle course on the ice, I took some video to share with you. The kids are allowed to bring their hockey sticks during our next skating time, but they do have to have a full face mask to play hockey.
We also visited the computer lab and made Valentine cards using Kerpoof. This is a fun little program that is free, you can set up a login name if you want to use all its features, but today we just used the card making. The kids loved it. They all printed out their cards and brought them home today. Below is a picture of their cards, we had to print them in black and white and then color them.

Our "Really Great Person" in Kindergarten
Every couple of weeks we choose a new "Really Great Person" in our Kindergarten class. The child takes home the materials to make a poster about themselves and they bring pictures from home to share with their classmates. Everyone loves looking at pictures from home and all the students get to ask the "Really Great Person" questions. The whole class then lines up and we all get to shake the "Really Great Person's" hand and tell him or her that we really do think that they are a "Really Great Person."

The Dapper Mr. V
We were thrilled to meet Mr. V today. He is very dashing in his fancy "violet, velvet, vest." We learned his sound and found that it makes our bottom lip tickle if we make the sound correctly. Mr. V is actually cousins with Mr. F, believe it our not! We also printed Mr. V, making sure to have a "pointy witch nose" at the bottom, and ALWAYS starting our letters at the TOP.
The afternoon brought a name book for Layton as you will see a few pages below and centers was the perfect time to get your hair done...life is good in Kindergarten!
